We get hundreds of new CD submissions a year. I listen to every submission – maybe not every song, but always enough to get a good handle on the submission. The stack grows threateningly before me and I scramble to catch up. However there are worse jobs a man can have.
Sadly, most of the submissions do not require a great deal of listening. In fact, I can pretty much tell by the middle of the first song if the material meets the Watchfire Music criteria.
I consider production, songwriting skills like melody, lyrics, musicianship and, of course the abilities of the lead singer. If these skills grab me as positive, I listen on to see if the package is inspirational. Some CDs require a little wading through and deeper consideration. Most get put into the reject staff pretty quickly for a variety of reasons.
Produced by Joe Puerta who also produced Bruce Hornsby & The Range, the CD has a surety that scoops you up and carries you along from the first bar of the music.
